Journey from Orange, California to Oklahoma City!

The Journey Begins from California to Oklahoma....

Thursday

So the journey began at 4:15am on Thursday morning! My friend Shayna (high school friend who moved out to OK) and I began a LONG drive. We hopped in our moving truck and went 75 the WHOLE way (except when there was construction or police using radar of course.) I am sure we would have gone faster if we could but lucky for us the truck had a governor and maxed out at 75, otherwise we would have gotten a ton of tickets I am sure!! So we got to Amarillo, Texas at 11:15 Thursday night.

Shayna cleaning the windows for me....

because as the saying goes....EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS!!!

In case you didn't do the math, we drove for 20 hrs straight and stopped every 4 hrs or so to get gas! We were exhausted!!! We stayed at a Motel 6 and caught up on our much needed sleep!

Are we there yet....

Friday
:

Friday morning we left Amarillo, Texas at 9:00 am and got into Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at noon.

I have only 30 min left in the car and the child syndrome of "are we there yet?" is starting to kick in....hmmmm...let's see how many truck drivers I can get to honk at me? Any guesses....

We met up with my mom for lunch at the MACU, the university where I will be working!

I got to see my cute little desk, and meet all of the people in my department! I know your wondering, is everyone in Oklahoma a hick and surprisingly there not, everyone here is very nice! I feel like I will fit right in, in no time!

After lunch, we made it to my "new home". A very cute little brick building (they call them Brownstones). We tried unloading and that didn't last long! It was very hot 105 degrees with 40% humidity! Moving in heat and going up and down stairs don't go well together. So we took many breaks! That evening my mom went to work and Shayna and I went to dinner at Red Robbin and did some errands.

They have an incredible craft store here in Oklahoma called Hobby Lobby! It's at least 3 times the size of Michael's and it has EVERY THING YOU CAN THINK OF! I will definitly be spending lots and lots of money there!

Saturday

On Saturday my mom took me to this really cute little town called Guthrie, which was Oklahoma's first capital. It is about 30 min drive north or OKC. We got the best cinnamon rolls I have ever had at this little donut/coffee house called Missy's! If anyone comes to visit, I will take you there! They are delicious!

After that adventure, we met up at a craft day that the ladies at MACU put on. We stopped by to say "hi" and to give me the opportunity to meet some people!

Then we came back home and I did some more unpacking. I never realized how exhausting moving is. Let me just say, I have burned a TON of calories over the last few days and been sweating more than I ever have. It's pretty disgusting!

Later on that night, my friend Shayna and I went out to get d rinks at Deep Duce with a friend of her's from work. Well actually he is now my friend too!!! We had a great time laughing and talking.

I am sooo excited to meet new people and see what happens in my life while I am here! So much more fun to come!

Sunday

I went to church this morning. It was incredible! The pastor spoke on God's mercy and Grace. I am soo excited to get connected and be a part of the church community here in Oklahoma!

For the rest of my day, I am unpacking and arranging all of my stuff now that we got all of it out of the truck.

So much more to come...

Almost Ready!

Today has been a great day! I started with saying good bye to a few of the students I tutor, I took them to ice cream for a treat. Then my friend Stefanie picked me up and took me down to meet my dad at the budget truck rental. I thought I was getting a deal but when it came down to it, I ended up spending what I was originally quoted $1,000...here is a note to all you movers or looking into moving, IT'S EXPENSIVE! Do your research because had I not, I would have paid a whole lot more!

Thanks to the help of my girl friend (Jenna) we got the truck almost completely packed, whoever said girls can't lift a finger is wrong!! Then we took a break and met a friend (Jamie) for sushi, went shopping and returned to finish up our packing task! My friends are the bomb.com and thanks to them...

A Lesson on Tie Downs....

That should do the trick! Who would have thought....

It's all done!

I AM READY TO ROLL OUT!!! Look out people...trucker chick coming through!!!!

More to come...stay tuned over the next few days!

In One Week...

In one week...I will have completed my first day of driving to OK. Everything is coming together. I sold my car, I have been packing up and saying my good byes. My emotions have been all over the place. I am saying good bye to everything I know and the people I love! Two of the families I have come very close with in the last 5 years took me to dinner. It was a nice treat. My friend asked me what I was going to miss the most, and I told her, my friends and family! I have had such a great group of friends varying in all ages, from kindergarteners to 75 year old's. I am going to miss them all!

Yesterday was a hard day, I said my good byes to my teacher friends. It was a great time to get together and just hang out. Thank you Julie and Bonnie for hosting and putting it together! I will miss my Macy Family!

Today as I was helping one of my teacher friend's with her classroom, and it came time for me to say good bye, I got teary eyed. I had to get out of there fast before I lost my composure. We have become very close over the summer, partly because I broker her leg...well not really but I encouraged her to go down a big hill at the park we where rollerblading at (she was on roller skates) and needless to say we both lost control and fell but she broke both her bones in her leg.

Saying good bye is never easy and its going to get harder as I have to say good bye to my sister, some special kids, and special families.

More to come in the next week as I continue my adventure!!!

The Little Vehicle that Could...

What a day...cleaning out your car is always on the list of things to do but never seems to get done until there is a reason! Whether its because it is completely disgusting, your going on a date, or your getting ready to sell it....Yup, my first car that I have been driving for the last 7 years is now on the market to be sold! So many mixed emotions and so many great memories were had in that trusty little vehicle! Which also means, I am one step closer to moving across the world...ok not the world...but it will seem like that when I have to say good bye to the world that I only know!
